État de la populationExpert
This species is common where it occurs and has a patchy distribution. Yucca campestris found east of the Pecos river grows in restricted areas, but dense colonies are found in all localities (Ortiz and Van der Meer 2008). The species produces flowers at approximately 10 years and may live up to a 100 years, based on this a generation length of 45 years is estimated for this yucca.

Description complète des menacesExpert
The northern subpopulations have been affected by industrial agriculture since the 1950's and an estimated 40% of the range has been lost. The Permian Basin, in which the species occurs, is heavily affected by oil and gas exploration and extraction, including fracking. These activities cause direct declines in the population and also affect the water table which causes indirect damage to the population. Off road vehicle activities also affect this plant and the encroachment of invasive mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa). Given that yuccas are reliant for the most part on a single pollinator, the Yucca moth, ground disturbing activities could affect the survival of the moth species in the area, as the pupal stage occurs underground. Increasing aridity may have adverse effects on the species survival.
