The population in the Mali i Lopës Mts. and Mali i Kreshtës Mountains was reported to be quite frequent according to (Barina et al. 2015). The plant is quite common on serpentine substrate, and always occurs in large populations (Barina et al. 2015), especially in northern parts of its distribution where there are large meadows (L. Shuka pers. comm. 2015). It is less common at lower altitudes, becoming more common at around 1,800 m altitude (L. Shuka pers. comm. 2015).

A threat is the abandonment of pastures and grasslands leading to natural succession of vegetation. The Kunora e Lurës site is impacted by water abstraction from the adjacent lake for hydro-power use, as well as construction of hydropower infrastructure, and associated road construction.
The impact of climate change, resulting in the decline of snow cover, as well as of small scale mining for chromium needs to be further studied.

S. albanica is not included in the Albanian flora books and not protected by the country legislation, even though it was described in 1932. Its population in Kunora e Lurës occurs within the Lura National Park.
