The species can be frequent locally. The population is estimated to be between 5,000-10,000 individuals (Thanos et al. 2015). The population trend seems to be stable based on the results of an undergoing monitoring project led by the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania.

There seem to be no apparent current threats for this species. However, infrastructure development and land use changes are feasible threats likely to affect its entire population in the near future as the one locality where it has been recorded is very close to a road and a hotel building. The locality inside the Imbros gorge seems to be safer for the species' survival, but it is still plausible that a single threatening event could affect the entire distribution.

The entire population of the species is located inside the Natura 2000 site 'Lefka Ori Kai Paraktia Zoni' (Site Code: GR4340008). Seeds have been collected and are stored at the seed bank of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania. Because it is a narrow endemic to this particular Natura 2000 site, its population size has been estimated and is being monitored since 2014.
