There is no specific information regarding population size and trends for this species. The only information given by Strid in von Raab-Straube and Raus 2017 is that the species on Mt Koronos (Naxos) is gregarious in a small area, growing together with Cyclamen hederifolium Aiton, Erysimum hayekii (Jáv. & Rech, f.) Polatschek, Galanthus ikariae Baker, Symphytum davisii subsp. naxicola (Pawł.) Steam and Vicia pinetorum Boiss. & Spruner. Furthermore according to Strid (pers. comm,) Ornithogalum naxense is rather common on Naxos. There are some large populations on the northern side of Mt Koronos at ca 600 m where it grows in ravines together with Galanthus ikariae, Cyclamen hederifolium and Symphytum davisii subsp. naxicola. The populations on Amorgos and Milos are probably smaller.

There is no information regarding specific threats for this species. However, grazing, mainly by goats, is a fairly significant pressure on several of the Aegean islands since it can mainly affect the quality of the habitat. Also any change in the hydrology of the areas where the species grows could contribute to the change and degradation of the habitat. In addition, plans for the construction of wind farms on Naxos could potentially lead to a reduction in the plant's population locally. According to Arne Strid (pers. comm.) there is not much grazing in the places where the plant grows.
