État de la populationExpert
The population size of this species appears to be fairly large, but with an estimated less than 10,000 mature individuals. In the last decades this population size has been reduced due to the habitat threats. It is estimated a population size reduction of 30% has taken place in the last three generations (E. Martínez Salas pers. comm 2019).

Description complète des menacesExpert
The habitat loss of this species is a major threat and is caused by human pressures on the land. More specifically, there are areas where the vocation and use of the land have been altered, causing the removal of natural vegetation (Wilken et al. 2011). The expansion of the agriculture frontier in the range is relatively high, which has caused direct mortality as well as the continuing decline in EOO, AOO, and habitat quality.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

There are three current conservation actions in place: Forest Protection Zone and Wildlife Refuge "Sierra de Álvarez" (San Luis Potosí), National Park "El Potosí" (San Luis Potosí), State Conservation Reserve "Pinal del Zamorano" (Guanajuato). The species is not known from any ex situ collections (BGCI 2019). Habitat and natural process restoration would be beneficial with support for non-agricultural and non-livestock activities, to avoid change of land use in the region with sustainable production and livelihood alternatives. In addition, monitoring of the habitat is recommended.
