État de la populationExpert
The population size is estimated at less than 10,000 mature individuals. The number of mature individuals is subject to decline due to urban expansion, frequent fires and the threats of potential future mining activities. Therefore, a decline in the mature individuals of at least 10% is estimated to occur in the future (E. Martínez Salas pers. comm. 2019).

Description complète des menacesExpert
The main threat for Nolina excelsa is ecosystem alteration, mainly caused by the urban expansion. There are no mining operations within its distribution range; however, mining explorations/exploitations are expected in the near future. Additionally, frequent wildfires and fires usually occur in the whole range, which cause direct mortality (E. Martínez Salas pers. comm. 2019).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
About 15% of the AOO is in the Biosphere Reserve "Tehuacán-Cuicatlán". This species is not known from any ex situ collections (BGCI 2019). Control of urban expansion in the range is needed to avoid an intensive change of land use. It would be beneficial to recommend sustainable associated production and livelihood alternatives. In addition, it is suggested to monitor the habitat and population trends.
