État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
Several subpopulations have been cited throughout its distribution area. Although it is not a common species, the relatively large number of subpopulations cited, particularly some apparently large ones from Spain and Portugal, seem to indicate that its population is stable.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Agricultural practices and, in particular, the change in land uses and abandonment of its traditional management is the main threat to this species in the near future, favoring an excess of coverage by the scrubs and trees that would difficult both the growth of bulbs as well as pollination. Subpopulations growing in littoral areas are under threat due to the transformation pressure of these places for touristic purposes.
According to Perez-Barrales et al. (2009), as seed and pollen dispersal across the region seem to be poor, the contemporary gene flow between populations is expected to be scarce, and therefore an increased severity in population fragmentation would represent a higher risk of extinction in the short term.
The increasing interests on the galanthamine-related alkaloid content of the Amaryllidaceae for pharmaceutical purposes (Berkov et al. 2014, Hanks 2002) would represent a threat in the near future, since plants from natural habitats remain an important source of these bioactive substances for the pharmaceutical industry (Berkov et al. 2011).
