État de la populationExpert
Locally abundant, subpopulations of this species are large throughout its distribution range, with more than 100,000 mature individuals only in the region of Castilla-La Mancha (Ríos et al. 2009, Ríos et al. 2010). Its population trend is stable, although it may have been subject to decline at the local level as a result of changes in land use and management.

Description complète des menacesExpert
Land use changes and the abandonment of traditional free grazing management practices, particularly as a result of the substitution of local sheep breeds such as “Segureña” with cows of breeds as “Retinta”, which are kept in closed fences, has lead to the decline in abundance of the plant due the transformation of grasslands into scrublands and forests (Casas et al. 2010).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert

The species is present in several protected areas throughout its range (Ríos et al. 2009). It is not listed as threatened at a national or regional levels in Spain (DOCM 2001, Blanca et al. 2002, Moreno 2008).

There are some ongoing strategies in place for ex situ conservation of the subspecies Narcissus hedraeanthus subsp. hedraeanthus, including long-term seed preservation in Torretes Botanical Garden at Research Institute CIBIO-University of Alicante (with replicates in other institutions), a collection of living plants maintained in the same institution, and, complementarily, the performance of a stock of in vitro cultures (Juan-Vicedo et al. 2015) with plant material that can be used in plant reintroduction programs. However, there is a lack of information on subspecies conservation strategies in place for Narcissus hedraeanthus subsp. luteolentus

No additional conservation measures are proposed at the species level.
