Only two subpopulations are known at present. Arroyo and Barrett (2000) found c.100 flowering individuals (after the peak of the flowering season) in 1999 at the Jbel Bouhachem site. Due to the nature and availability of the habitat in which they occur, it has been estimated that the total population size will not exceed 200 individuals. There is no information on population trends.

Due to its occurrence on cliffs and high mountains, the only known threat is the risk of collection by botanists or horticulturalists, however even minor collecting pressure could affect entire populations.

All known localities are present within the protected areas of Talassemtane National Park and Bouhachem Regional Natural Park (IUCN and UNEP-WCMC 2017). There are no specific conservation measures in place for this species
The most important conservation action required for this species is its inclusion in the national list of protected species of Morocco. There is also a need for this species to be added to the list of species covered by CITES. In addition to inform national conservation and to protect individual subpopulations, additional surveys to document existing populations, combined with collection of data suitable to establish a baseline for monitoring population trends are recommended. Ex situ cultivation and seed collection for conservation in national and international seed banks are also important.
