Most of the species' population is found around the Klinghardt mountains. Plants are found either as scattered individuals or in groups and specimen notes record that it can be common but localized. The population trend is currently stable as for last 20 years there is very little decline due to it being in the Tsau //Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park (TKNP). The species is likely to experience a 30% loss in the next three generations due to the proposed green hydrogen developments whose development footprints overlap with a third of its core areas of  occurrence.

This species is potentially threatened by illegal ornamental trade as the species has horticultural potential. Climate change will likely become a plausible future threat as it occurs in an area which experiences intense heat for much of the year as well as erratic rainfall. It will only grow or flower if there has been sufficient rainfall (Duncan 1998).  With the new ongoing plan to construct wind turbines for the green hydrogen projects for the Southern Corridor Development Initiative within the Tsau //Khaeb  (Sperrgebiet) National Park (TKNP), it might contribute to a decline in the population as 75% of the species' population is within the development range, so at least 30% of the population is likely to be lost to the development. Off road driving may be an additional threat to the species' population as the park will become readily accessible to companies involved in harnessing wind energy. The Halenberg subpopulation occurs close to proposed lithium exploration mining sites which might also cause future habitat loss.

The entire population of this species falls within a formally protected areas. Public access to this park is more restricted than any other national park. The influx of employees within the area due to future potential green hydrogen and associated mega renewable energy projects may significantly change this situation. Ongoing monitoring of the population and its response to  developments is needed. Ex situ collections should be made to ensure the long term conservation of genetic diversity.
