Habitat destruction and degradation is becoming an increasing threat to the native biodiversity of Papua New Guinea. The main causes of habitat loss are logging, agricultural settlement and the introduction of exotic species. Only around 40% of the original forest cover is present on Papua New Guinea today, and up to 80% of the forests left have been targeted for logging or agricultural conversion (Indo-Pacific Conservation Alliance 1999).

This species has been collected from a wide area of New Guinea, with some of these specimens occurring in protected areas (Upper Mamberano, Foja Game Reserve, Hunstein Range Wildlife Management Area). It is not listed on CITES.
