  Furcraea niquivilensis is a common species, but it is estimated the total number of mature individuals does not exceed 10,000. It is considered the current population trend is declining due to the habitat threats. In fact, a population size reduction of 30% took place in the last three generations due to the expansion of the agriculture frontier and extensive cattle ranching. A continuing decline in the mature individuals of at least 10% over the the next three generations is estimated, based on the expansion of the agricultural frontier (E. Martínez Salas pers. comm. 2019).

The natural habitat of this species has been subject to serious decline due to the extensive change in land use, mainly for agricultural and livestock farming expansion (E. Martínez Salas pers. comm. 2019).

There are no current conservation actions in place. This species is  known from two ex situ collections (BGCI 2019) and is probably still grown in a wider range of botanic gardens. Non-agricultural and non-livestock activities to avoid change of land use in the region with sustainable production and livelihood alternatives are suggested. In addition, monitoring of the habitat and population trends is recommended.
