Widely collected in Mexico and the USA, this species is known from over 170 collections. In addition, Echeandia flavescens appears to thrive in both natural and disturbed habitats, suggesting that populations are abundant. Its has been described as "fairly common in grassy areas" in Madera Canyon, Arizona.

Conversion of natural habitat to arable and urban land is the most serious threat to Echeandia populations throughout Mexico.This species, however, is unlikely to be seriously affected by these processes for several reasons: it is very widespread, its thickened roots and plant base remain underground for long periods of time enabling populations to recover after changes in habitat conditions and it is known to benefit somewhat from human disturbance.
