The population size of the species is unknown. There is no data to suggest a continuing decline or reduction in its population size. However, herbarium specimens record the plants as occurring individually or scattered and the plants are rarely encountered by biologists that frequent the Tsau //Khaeb National Park. Manning et al. (2018) record them as occurring in small colonies of up to 30 individuals. Based on the low numbers of subpopulations recorded and small subpopulation size, a total population size of less than 1,000 mature individuals is estimated.

There are no current major threats to this species. Prolonged droughts might possibly have an impact on the population, although the fact that it is a geophyte means that it is able to survive under the soil surface for long periods of time, providing a level of resilience to drought conditions. Some subpopulations (less than 10%) occur in areas where diamond mining activities are concentrated, and these subpopulations may have been affected in terms of habitat quality, although a significant  population reduction or continuing decline seems unlikely. The implementation of the green hydrogen projects for the Southern Corridor Development Initiative may affect the habitat quality for some of  the subpopulations. There will be more pressure on the road network in the coastal regions that are serving the three existing diamond mines and other economic activities including tourism may also affect habitat quality in some of the subpopulations. The fact that the population seems to be very small  may mean that an impact on their habitat could be significant. However, apart from the potential impact of long-term droughts, there does not seem to be any threat associated with the species that will significantly impact the entire population.

The entire population occurs within the Tsau //Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park, which affords it passive conservation. The Tsau //Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park has as ten year (2020/2021 – 2029/2030) management plan which includes monitoring of biodiversity. This particular species is not monitored. A number of subpopulations should be targeted for long-term monitoring and additional seed collection. It is reported to be in ex situ collections (BGCI 2024). As this appears to be a rare species, long-term monitoring of subpopulations as well as population size and trends should be undertaken.
