Drimia oliverorum

Diamond mining is a severe threat to this species with the only known location in South Africa occurring within the mining footprint of the Lower Orange River mining operation. Mining of this location started in 2022 and either the only alluvial deposit where this species occurs in South Africa will be mined away or the impacts of mining happening adjacent to the subpopulation will result in dust and silt deposits that will cause the subpopulation to be lost. Opportunistic harvesting of this species may be taking place within South Africa as species in this genus have been included in confiscations, though not in large numbers. Threats to the four subpopulations in Namibia are not known.

The species is currently not included in any national legislation in either of the countries where it occurs, nor is it protected by any international legislation. At least one of the subpopulations occurs within a protected area. Ex situ collections are being made for the subpopulation being impacted by mining, this genetic material should be used to reintroduce a subpopulation in South Africa.
