État de la populationExpert

The only large population currently known is found between Tréat and Ben Azzouz in Algeria. It holds around 50 individuals dispersed along 500 m. Other currently known localities host very few individuals (less than 5-10) and some historical sites need confirmation. Populations near Algiers have not been found again and they are likely extinct (Vela et al. 2016).

Description complète des menacesExpert

The main population of this species is found on private land and is potentially threatened by changes in land uses as this land will probably be devoted to agriculture in the future. Indeed, it is suspected that the population had been larger in the past as currently much of the area is occupied by agricultural land. Other sites are threatened by moderate trampling and erosion due to grazing, and track expansion (or maintenance) where plants are removed from the track sides. A very small population is found in an abandoned quarry which is suspected to be already used as garbage dump for the new quarry next to it. The westernmost historical records from Cap Matifou, Algiers, are considered extinct due to urbanization of the area.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
There are no conservation measures specifically targeting this plant. A small population is found within El Kala National Park but with no specific conservation measures. It is recommended then that active in situ conservation should be undertaken in these areas. Additionally there is an urgent need for research on population numbers and precise distribution range, ecology and threats.
