There is no information on direct threats, but the species is likely to be threatened by dam construction and other actions which modify the flow character of the Mekong River, as well as logging or clear-felling on the banks or floodplain of the river. It is also likely to be threatened by over-grazing during the dry season and is severely threatened by proposed dams on the River Mekong, only a small number of which could eradicate populations by stabilising water levels at a depth which would preclude flowering because Cryptocoryne species only flower when emersed.
