When forest is cleared and particularly when the substrate adjacent to the forest is disturbed, resulting in increased sediments and turbidity, this species appears to decline in the channel and grow on the margins, where it is more vulnerable to erosion and other impacts. It is also threatened by collection from the wild for the plant trade.
