Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
There are no specific threats identified for this species but its forest habitat is threatened by deforestation from expanding agriculture and logging. Humid forests have decreased in area since the 1970's by 33% and dry deciduous forests by 39% (Moat and Smith 2007). Humid forest, particularly lowland forest is threatened by slash and burn agriculture, whilst western dry forests are threatened by charcoal production, firewood collection, agricultural clearing and encroachment (Moat and Smith 2007). Deforestation has continued in recent years with 318,000 hectares of forest lost across Madagascar in 2014 (Global Forest Watch 2016). The invasive Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is becoming an increasing problem at lakes in Madagascar and may compete with native vegetation like this species (Ranarijaona et al. 2013).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
This species is found in many protected areas across Madagascar, for example, Marojejy National Park, Ranomafana National Park, Tsingy de Bemaraha strict nature reserve, Bezaha Mahafaly special reserve, Masoala National Park and Zahamena National Park. There are twelve ex situ collections held at botanic gardens (BGCI 2016). It is recommended that seeds are stored as part of ex situ conservation measures.
