This species is known from two herbarium specimens collected in the same locality in 1984 and 1990, which suggests a very small or restricted population.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
The single location is considered to be threatened by habitat loss and degradation due in particular to overgrazing by livestock and the collection of woody species for fuel and charcoal production. Both specimens were collected in the vicinity of the Sof Omar caves, which are of cultural importance, a place of pilgrimage and also a candidate UNESCO Heritage site (UNESCO World Heritage Convention 2011), so the site may be relatively protected but a potential increase in numbers of visitors could lead to further degradation of the surrounding habitat. Satellite imagery taken between 2007–2022 shows a deterioration in the habitat surrounding the collecting locality of the species due in part to agricultural expansion but this may be a lesser threat near the site of the caves as the terrain may not be suitable for cultivation. Sebsebe and Nordal (2010), when referring to this species and some others in the same family, state that the only threat to the species is probably habitat destruction, and 'species that only exist in a single locality, as for example, C. pterocarpum, are certainly vulnerable'.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
No specific conservation measures or management plan are in place for this species and the collecting locality is not in a protected area (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2023). However, both specimens were collected in the vicinity of the Sof Omar caves, which are of cultural importance, a place of pilgrimage and also a candidate UNESCO Heritage site (UNESCO World Heritage Convention 2011). As a site of cultural importance this location may be relatively well protected but potentially increasing numbers of visitors could lead to further degradation of the surrounding habitat. The species is not known to occur in any ex situ plant collections (BGCI 2023).
