Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Within the Monts de Cristal and the South of Mont Cameroun NP, Chlorophytum petrophilum is threatened by a hydroelectric dam project (in Gabon) and by conversion of forest to oil-palm and/or other plantations (in Cameroon). Indeed, the occurrence within the Monts de Cristal NP is located within the projected inundated area resulting from a dam project and we expect this location will disappear in the near future. Moreover, the species is threatened by logging in Gabon, and by small-scale agriculture (slash and burn agriculture) in Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
Chlorophytum petrophilum is known from five protected areas: the Oban Forest Reserve in Nigeria, the Mont Cameroun and the Campo Ma’an National Parks in Cameroon, the Caldera de Luba Scientific Reserve in Bioko in Equatorial Guinea, and the Monts de Cristal National Park in Gabon. However, increasing the level of protection in the Mont Cameroun and the Monts de Cristal NP should be considered, and it should be sought in other places to increase the knowledge of its distribution. Moreover, ex situ conservation should be tested, and a public awareness campaign must be conducted involving industrial companies and other private actors, NGOs, scientific institutions, and the governments where the species occur, to ensure that the species is taken into consideration when decisions are made that could impact its conservation.
