État de la populationTexte officiel évaluation IUCNExpert
There is no population information available for this species. It is only known from ten herbarium specimens, nine were collected between 1951 and 1977, with only one more recent specimen collected in Mali in 2012. Despite extensive botanical collecting in Guinea by the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and Guinean botanists since 2006 this species has not been recollected in Guinea. Surveys for this species are recommended to study the species population size and trends.

Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
The species occurs in seasonally flooded ferralitic grasslands which are threatened by agriculture, fishing and livestock grazing (Adams 1993). In Senegal the species occurs in the delta near the coast where there is rice cultivation (Adams 1993). Satellite imagery shows rice cultivation and other agriculture close to the two known localities for the species in the delta. The third collection from Senegal is from Kedougou region where there is mining exploration and satellite imagery also shows crop cultivation nearby. In Mali the species has been collected in Kayes region near an area where there is a planned new uranium mine (M.Cheek pers. comm. 2018) and also in Sikasso region where satellite imagery shows many small villages and areas of agriculture. The two known localities in Guinea Bissau (Gabu region, close to the border with Guinea) and Sierra Leone (Northern Province, close to the border with Guinea) are both fairly remote areas with no known threats. In Guinea the species is known from three localities in Boké region. Two are from Koundara prefecture where agriculture and small towns are visible on satellite imagery close to the localities where the species was collected. The third locality in Guinea in Gaoual prefecture is fairly remote with no known threats.

The species occurs in Kuru Hills Forest Reserve in Sierra Leone and Gambie-Koulountou Ramsar wetland site in Guinea (IUCN and UNEP-WCMC 2018). However Gambie-Koulountou Ramsar wetland site was only established recently in 2006. The species has also been collected close to Foret des Narangs Forest Reserve and Basse-Casamance National Park in Senegal and may occur in these protected areas.
