There is no data on population size. The species is currently known from only nine herbarium records of which the most recent was collected in 1974. Since that date it has not been recollected, although the area has been well collected; it is therefore considered to be very rare.

All collection sites are from outside protected areas in regions where human population is increasing continuously, which involves irreversible changes of the natural habitat due to urban expansion, crop cultivation, and livestock pasture. All these adverse environmental pressures on the land have led to the destruction/degradation of large stretches of its suitable habitat. The remaining gallery forest and savanna patches that the species inhabits are small and are affected by logging and agricultural expansion. This ongoing habitat loss results in a continuing decline of the species’ extent and habitat quality.
