Since Onana (2013) and Onana and Cheek (2011) reported that this species was very rare, further sites have been identified (Bjorâ and Nordal 2014). Nonetheless, the species is still thought to be rare.

In Baré (Littoral Region), the main threat is from the conversion of land for agriculture (Onana and Cheek 2011, Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun 2020). The economy of Baré is heavily dependent on agriculture, and satellite imagery shows that there is an increasing amount of cultivated land around the town (Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun 2020, Google Earth 2020). The volcanic soils around Baré support a wide range of crops: both food crops and cash crops such as coffee, cocoa, and increasingly oil palm (Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun 2020). The proximity of Baré to Nkongsamba is likely to be driving the cultivation of crops for export to that market (Onana and Cheek 2011). The population of Baré also raise livestock, and trampling and grazing may threaten this species (Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun 2020). Satellite imagery also shows that Baré has expanded since this species was collected, which has likely resulted in the loss of habitat and increasing agricultural pressures (Google Earth 2020). Similarly, both agriculture and livestock raising are important activities in Yoko (Central Region), and potentially exploitable mineral resources, including diamond iron and gold, are present in the area (Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun 2020). The collection site at Baturi (Adamaoua Region) is situated with the Mbere Valley National Park. Although forest cover in the park area increased between 1987 and 1999, it subsequently declined between 1999 and 2014 (Cyrille and Sylvain 2017). This decline was driven by agriculture, livestock practices, logging, and burning which all pose a threat to this species at this site (Cyrille and Sylvain 2017).

There are no targeted conservation actions for this species, and there are currently no known ex-situ conservation sites (BGCI 2020). One of this species' collection sites does, however, fall within the Vallée du Mbéré National Park (UNEP-WCMC and IUCN 2020). This species has not been recorded since 1912 and so surveys are needed to confirm its current distribution. This species was not observed during extensive surveys of the plants of Mt Mwanenguba, to the west of Baré (Cheek et al. 2004, Onana and Cheek 2011). Therefore, this species may occur in a restricted area at Baré, and targeted attempts to re-find this species in the Baré area are needed to confirm whether the species remains extant at this site (Onana and Cheek 2011). Poulsen and Nordal, who did not include this species in their 2005 analysis of the Chlorophytum species of Guineo‐Congolean rain forests, should be consulted to confirm the status of the species at Baré (Onana and Cheek 2011). Once this species is re-found, further research is needed into its population status and trends, habitat requirements, threats and regeneration levels (Onana and Cheek 2011).
