Asparagus simulans is known from more than 100 subpopulations. No numerical population information is available. The last collection of this species was made in 2019 from Tsitongambarika, in the Anosy Region (Rakotoarivelo #1131).

Asparagus simulans is threatened by habitat loss due to logging, wildfires, agricultural practices and mining activities. However, there are unlikely to affect its extinction risk in a short time.

The species is found in 17 protected areas; Agnalazaha, Alaotra, Analamazaotra, Ambohitantely, Befotaka Midongy, Anjanaharibe Corridor Ankeniheny Zahamena, Loky Manambato, Montagne d'Ambre, Manongarivo, Masoala, Mantadia, Mangabe, Manombo, NAP COMATSA Nord, Site Ramsar Torotorofotsy, Tsitongambarika and Zahamena, where 40 subpopulations are protected. It is not known to be represented from ex situ collection (BGCI 2022, Genesys 2022).
