État de la populationExpert
Fukuda et al. (2011) report that this species is widespread across Japan and that it has two different lineages of limited migratory capabilities (separated physically by a mountain range and climatic differences between the coasts of the Pacific Ocean and of the Japan Sea). Although further population information is not stated it is not featured in Japanese Red List (Ministry of the Environment 2007). Further research is required to ascertain population size and trend across the rest of this species' native range, although it is suspected that the population is largely stable.
Description complète des menacesExpert
The threats to this species remain unknown. However, there are several known threats to the forests of China, the main ones being illegal logging and legal deforestation due to increasing population pressures and urbanization. Air and water pollution are also having a detrimental effect on China's forests (USDA Forest Service 2013). It is unknown whether these threats are having a direct effect on Asparagus schoberioides.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
The genus Asparagus is included in Annex 1 of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA), which aims to guarantee sustainable agriculture and food security through the conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, as well as ensuring the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of their use (FAO 2009).

This species is not found in Svalbard Global Seed Vault (SGSV Data Portal 2013) or the International Leafy Vegetables Database (ECPGR 2007–2010). However, according to Botanical Garden Conservation International (BGCI 2013), this species has a living collection in one botanical garden, although the origin and location of the collection is not detailed in this resource (garden locations are undisclosed to protect rare and valuable plant species). This species is not included in the Plant Red List of East Asia (Kokubugata and Kato 2008–2013) or the Japanese Red List.

This species is present in several protected areas in Russia (Information Center for the Environment (ICE) 2013) where passive in situ is presumed:
  • Bolshekhekhtsirsky Zapovednik (common with reproducing population)
  • Kedrovaya Pad Zapovednik (reproducing population)
  • Sikhote-Alinskiy Biosphere Reserve (rare)
  • Ussuriysky Zapovednik (rare)
Surveying of these sites to determine population trends and the possibility of incorporating active conservation into current management plans would benefit this species, alongside gathering of germplasm material for storage in ex situ collections.
