It is known from over 150 localities. The taxon is reported to be widespread, locally common and abundant, forming colonies on rocks or in the shade of trees (specimen data, Croat 1991). The size and dynamics of the population are unknown.

Parts of the region are suffering from a high rate of habitat loss. However, collections of this species in disturbed and secondary vegetation suggest a good tolerance of anthropogenic disturbances. There are no known current direct threats to this wide ranging, locally abundant herb.
