This species is restricted to the higher areas of the Serra do Mar in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which is covered by a vast network of protected areas. Potential threats in areas falling outside the protected area network are agriculture and urban expansion. However, plenty of this species' habitat is still available within the conservation units of the region. Furthermore, the species is found both in virgin and altered (secondary or degraded) forests, and appears to be able to cope with some disturbance (M. d'Ávila de Moraes pers. comm. July 2013).
