Description complète des menacesTexte détaillé évaluation IUCNExpert
Although several subpopulations are found within protected areas, habitat destruction is occurring at park boundaries and in the surrounding areas. Cattle pasture, human settlement, plantations, illegal logging, goldmining and pollution all continue to threaten the lowland forest areas, leading to forest fragmentation. The northern populations of this species are not contained within any protected areas, however these higher altitude forests are under less threat than those near the coast.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesStratégies de conservation IUCNExpert
This species is very well represented within protected areas. All of the southern subpopulations are contained within national parks or forest reserves: Corcovado National Park, Piedras Blancas National Park and Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve, all established in 1970s. Both national parks are well managed. This species has also been collected from the "Rancho Quemado" — land owned by a local community conservation group, and from the La Gamba field station on the edge of the Piedras Blancas National Park. La Gamba is an area of 142 km2 protected and researched by Austrian scientists and their team. The plant is cultivated in the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Sarasota, Florida, USA.
