This species is relatively uncommon within its very restricted range. It is known from two subpopulations (Cházaro Basañez and Vázquez-García 2013).

There are currently no major threats to this species, as many of the plants are on cliff faces and rock outcrops in inaccessible places, which confers some protection. The species might be impacted by the effects of deforestation and mining is a potential threat.
