État de la populationExpert

Agave fortiflora is a rare plant that has a limited distribution with few individuals, known with certainty only from the presumed type locality in the Sierra Jojoba and near the Sierrita de López (Gentry 1982). None of the subpopulations have been relocated (Gentry 1982, Klopper et al. 2010).

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species does not occur in protected areas. The specimens found in ex-situ collections in 7 botanical garden worldwide (BGCI 2019) are very likely mis-identifications given the scarcity of the species (W. Hodgson pers. comm. 2019). There are live specimens grown from seed at the Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix from the subpopulation observed by agave enthusiasts Etter and Martin in 2001. Specimens collected by Felger, Sue Carnahan have been determined as a putative hybrid between Agave angustifolia var. angustifolia and Acolorata, and not A. fortiflora, with which it may be confused (Felger et al. 2017, S. Felger pers. comm. 2019).
