The species main threats are reduction and disturbance of its habitat caused by expansion of the agriculture lands and farming and predation on young plants by grazing goats. Habitat disturbance is also due to extraction of wood and cactus species in the same ecosystem, for fuel and construction purposes. A potential threat to Agave boldinghiana could be the impact of charcoal mining at large scale that operates in the proximity of the known subpopulations in La Guajira, it is possible that mining has already impacted some subpopulations of the species.
