This species ranges from scarce to locally common. In recent expeditions many mature dead individuals have been observed, it is thought that the cause is the larvae of a beetle that leads to mortality, however, there were also many off-sets and it seems the overall population is stable.

This species is threatened by prolonged droughts and the larvae of a beetle that uses the plant as a host killing it.
