This species is only known from its type locality in the Crocker Range, suggesting that the population is small.

This species is only known from above Tambunan in the Crocker Range (Theilade and Mood 1997). Forest around Tambunan has been logged and converted, while forest at higher altitudes still has intact forest (GFW 2019). The type was collected at 1,680 m asl.

This species has not been recorded from any protected area (ZRC 2019). It is known to be grown in one ex situ site (BGCI 2019); The Orchid Centre in Tenom Agricultural Park (Theilade and Mood 1997).
