It is estimated that there are about 15 plants per 20 m², with a total population size of less than 1,000 mature individuals in Lao PDR. The size of the subpopulation in Thailand is unknown.

In Lao PDR, the subpopulations are outside of protected areas, but in Thailand it is found in Chiang Dao National Park. The species is grown in ex situ cultivation in two botanical gardens (BGCI 2018).
