The secondary forest where the species inhabits is subject to wood clearing. Moreover, this species is reported to grow close to the river banks, which are getting drier as consequence of the deforestation in the surrounding forest.

There has been an attempt to grow this species in the Bogor Botanic Garden, but the plants could only reach 40 cm tall and not survive further, probably due to the specific soil requirements.
