The species was recorded as common at certain altitudes in the southern parts of Cameron Highlands (Holttum 1950 in Theilade 1996). Habitat degradation suggests  that the population may be decreasing.

Malaysia is one of the largest producers of palm oil (Theo 2002), being one of the reasons natural habitat is logged and converted. Some locations have intact tree cover, while others show signs on land conversion (GFW 2019).
