A total of three different subpopulations of Zingiber arunachalensis were observed (2015-17) during recent field work, each of them having 4-5 individuals (M. Sabu pers. obs.). The population is likely to reduce with 70-80% within a relatively near future (M. Sabu pers. comm.).

The major threats affecting the population are widening of road, heavy rain and landslides. This will lead to loss of habitat and also direct mortality of the species.

Currently no conservation measures are taken. An attempt was made to conserve the germplasm at Calicut university botanical garden of University of Calicut, Kerala, but survival rate is very low (M. Sabu pers. obs.). It has not been recorded by BGCI (2018) to be grown ex situ. This species has not been found in any protected areas.
