The population size has been previously estimated as 1,000 plants and 6,500 mature plants but Haynes (2007) refers to projected population numbers of ~50,000. This estimate is based on surveys of population density (0.1 ha-1), observations that density is consistent across different sites and then extrapolating to the area of suitable habitat across the known range. This appears to be the best available estimate of the population size.
