Zamia skinneri

The population status of Zamia skinneri is affected by ongoing work on the circumscription of this taxon. Until recently several subpopulations from the region of the Panama canal to the Costa Rican border could be regarded as Z. skinneri. At present, subpopulations with green emergent leaves from the Bocas del Toro province in the north-west Panama region appear to be true Z. skinneri and that plants with red emergent leaves in other parts of Panama are other species. The population size of Z. skinneri, given this circumscription is estimated to be less than 500 mature individuals. Subpopulations are estimated to have declined by >50% over the past 50 years (less than 3 generations).
