Little is known about population numbers for this species. The distribution range is much larger than mentioned in previous assessments and it is likely that there are in excess of 10,000 mature individuals in the wild.

A hydro-electric dam project that has been completed in the Bocas del Toro region may have had significant negative impacts on several subpopulations in this area. Threats to other subpopulations are not known.
