Description complète des menacesExpert
This species is affected by habitat destruction as a result of slash and burn agriculture. However, plants seem to regenerate in abandoned cornfields, in areas cleared by logging operations and along roadsides. As with most species within this genus, it is collected for ornamental purposes.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species is listed in Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. Apparently this species seems to not be significantly threatened by local habitat destruction. However, if this destruction continues it will have a negative effect in the future. Plants occur in the Palenque National Park and in the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve. An education and awareness programme as well as the long-term monitoring of subpopulations will support the conservation of this species.
