Zamia fairchildiana is very common in local subpopulations, with at least 10,000 plants estimated to be in the wild, with a continuing decline of c. 10% over three generations (90 years).

This species is listed in Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. There are several large reproducing subpopulations some of which are now in protected forests, including the subpopulations within the Corcovado National Park and in the La Amistad National Park.  An education and awareness programme as well as the long-term monitoring of populations will support the conservation of this species.
