In Brazil there has been extensive deforestation visible on satellite images (NASA and Google Earth). The land-use is large-scale cattle ranching pastures and mechanised agriculture on the Brazilian side of the border of the river Iténez (Begotti et al. 2019). There is mining occurring in Bolivia, at San Simon, and in the State of Mato Grosso. The seasonally flooded area connected to the the river Iténez are at risk from run-off pollution from this agriculture, cattle ranching and mining from the other side of the river (Perez and Pouilly 2008). It should be investigated if this impacts any of the seasonally flooded pampas in region. However, at present on the Bolivian side of the border in this locality there are no other threats. Satellite images show that the degradation suffered in Bolivia is much less noticeable. Although remote from the Bolivian side of the border, Flor de Oro is accessible by boat from Brazil. Accessibility poses a small risk from trampling, fire, firewood collection or path clearance. Meaning that the human activities in the region could extend into the peripheral of the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park and cause habitat degradation.

Collections were made inside the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park, which has a IUCN category of II. According to the World Database of Protected Areas, the management effectiveness of the park has been assessed, however no species-based actions have been found to take place. Seeds from this species have not been collected for the Millennium Seed Bank and no specific legal protection has been identified.
