Epiphytes have experienced dramatic population decreases mainly because of habitat loss and extraction activities, which have driven many species close to extinction (Mondragon et al. 2006). The Costa Rican seasonal Moist Forests are densely populated. These forests have been extensively altered by human intervention. Mountain slopes, regardless of their steepness, have been cleared to grow beans, corn, coffee, as well as to support dairy cattle. Only small forest fragments remain, totalling less than 10% of the ecoregion's original forest cover. The Talamacan montane forests, on the other hand, have remained fairly intact due to their steep slopes, remoteness, and relatively cool temperatures, which have limited the impact of agriculture and human development in most of the area. However, the clearing of forest for agriculture development, timber harvesting and cattle pastures have begun to alter the unprotected habitat and deforestation rates, even in the highlands, are alarming. Many bromeliads have become very important horticultural plants because of their unique appearance (Barfuss et al. 2005), however this species doesn't appear to be available for sale at present.

There are no known conservation measures specifically for this species, however the species is known to occur in some protected areas, such as La Amistad Pacifico, Cordillera Volcanica Central and Pacifico Central Conservation Areas. Samples of seed should be collected and stored as an ex situ conservation measure. Botanical surveys should be conducted in historical sites of collection and potentially suitable areas to determine the current range and population size.
