No numerical population data are available but Typha species are often quite common in suitable places and it is suspected that the overall population is large. It is possible that the population trend may be decreasing as low lying areas are increasingly drained and converted for agricultural purposes, however, other species of Typha species are known to spread prolifically and to thrive under eutrophic conditions which may be associated with anthropogenic activity (CABI 2016) and the population trend for this taxon is, therefore, uncertain.

This species is likely to be adversely affected when areas are drained and converted for agricultural purposes. It may also be included in reed cutting activity which takes place even within protected areas such as the Boujagh National Park in Iran (Naqinezhad and Noroozi 2006).

This species is listed as a component of the flora of the Boujagh National Park in Iran (Naqinezhad and Noroozi 2006). It is not known to be conserved ex situ (BGCI 2016).
