This species is often collected but this is not thought to be causing any serious declines, whilst livestock overgrazing is also a threat across parts of the range especially trampling damage, but again its impact is thought to be minimal (Davletkeldiev 2006). The primary threat comes from landslides and mud flows which are common in the area and which could lead to the loss of subpopulations very rapidly.

This species is reported as Vulnerable in the Kyrgyz Red Book (Davletkeldiev 2006). This species is not known from any protected areas or ex situ collections. It is recommended that this species is added to a range of ex situ collections and also that a protected area is established that covers some of the subpopulations of this species.
