In Tajikistan this species is somewhat common with between 50,000 and 60,000 mature individuals known. There is only one current subpopulation known from Uzbekistan, which is on the edge of the overall distribution. The plant is rare in this area and the subpopulation is in decline, although it is protected within the Hissar National Reserve (Tojibaev and Beshko 2015). Overall the population is believed to be relatively stable, although the Uzbek part of the range may be considered under threat.

The only current threat to this species is livestock overgrazing, which is occurring both across its Uzbek and Tajik range. The grazing of livestock in habitat areas of this species is leading to the declines in habitat quality as well as declines in mature individuals. However this threat is believed to only being occurring in a small number of subpopulations and the majority of the range of this species is not threatened by the impact of livestock. Regardless the subpopulation recorded in Uzbekistan is under threat so this part of the range is in critical need of conservation action. Climate change may also impact this species as projections suggest large losses of suitable tulip habitat across Central Asia for some tulip species (Wilson et al. 2021), however the direct impact on this species is uncertain.

This species is recognised as Vulnerable in Tajikistan (Nowak et al. 2020) and is reported as Data Deficient in Uzbekistan (Tojibaev and Beshko 2015) where it was recently discovered and occurs in a very restricted range. This species occurs in the Hissar National Reserve in Uzbekistan as well as the Shirkent National Park in Tajikistan. This plant is recorded in six ex situ collections (BGCI 2022). There is a need to monitor population trends especially in areas where livestock overgrazing is believed to be causing the most damage, including the Uzbek part of this species range.
