État de la populationExpert
The overall population is thought to be slightly larger than 10,000 mature individuals with more than 10,000 flowering individuals known from Uzbekistan alone. There are seven subpopulations in Uzbekistan that have or are likely to disappear in the near future representing a 30% decline in area of occupancy which is inferred to represent a 30% decline in population. There is no population information from Afghanistan, Tajikistan, or Turkmenistan.

Description complète des menacesExpert
The primary threat to this species is livestock overgrazing, which is leading to broad declines in habitat quality (Tojibaev and Beshko 2015). In addition, expansion of agricultural areas, especially in the lowland habitat of this species, is causing subpopulations to be lost and consequently leading to population declines. Some areas where this species occurs are ploughed which exacerbates the damage to subpopulations of this species surviving in agricultural areas. Collection of this flower from subpopulations growing near settlements and roads particularly in touristic areas is also damaging mature individual numbers. Finally, climate change may impact this species in the future with current projections suggesting large losses in tulip habitat in the future (Wilson et al. 2021), but the direct impact on this species is unclear. There is no information about the threats occurring across the Turkmenistan and Afghanistan areas of its range.

Mesures de conservation recommandéesExpert
This species is currently reported as Vulnerable in the Uzbek Red Book (Tojibaev and Beshko 2015), whilst it remains unassessed in Tajikistan. There are also no reports of its status in Turkmenistan or Afghanistan. The species is reported to occur in three protected areas in Uzbekistan: a new Reserve established in 2022 (Verkhnyi Tupalag) protects around 20% of the Uzbek population of this species, Hissar National Reserve, and Surkhan State Nature Reserve. There are six ex situ collections of this species (BGCI 2022).
