In the northern part of this species' range there is a national park, however it does not provide effective protection, whilst in the south less than 50% of the population is protected by a large reserve overall leaving many subpopulations vulnerable to threats even if a large proportion of this species' area is protected. This species is primarily threatened by livestock overgrazing especially the central and eastern subpopulations. This threat is leading to broad habitat degradation as well as direct damage to the plants (Tojibaev and Beshko 2015). In addition, some of the subpopulations of this species grow near recreational areas, most notably the most northern subpopulation occurs near ski resorts where there are many tourists, leading to declines. Further development of ski resorts and slopes in this area will exacerbate issues. Some collection of flowering individuals also occurs, primarily in the north, due to the locality of subpopulations to settlements. Finally, climate change is also likely to lead to large losses of suitable habitat in this, already range restricted, species due to the shifting of suitable habitat (Wilson et al. 2021).

This species is recognised as Endangered in the Uzbek Red Book (Tojibaev and Beshko 2015). It does occur in at least two protected areas, however a large proportion of the population occurs outside of these areas. The species is recorded from four ex situ collections (BGCI 2022).
